Anti-Flag

Anti-Flag

Anti-Flag is a political punk rock band. That's the easiest way to describe them. The politics take the focal point of the band's persona. And that's just the way they like it.

2006 was a big year for the band for two reasons. First off, their new record For Blood and Empire was released. While the LP isn't too much of a departure from their previous work, its conception is. For Blood and Empire is out on RCA records, a company under the SonyBMG umbrella of labels.

This, of course, came as a shock to a lot of the people who thought they had the band figured out. Anti-Flag hopes to reach a larger audience with the move. Which, it undoubtedly will. However, the fears of the band watering down their message are unfounded. If anything, A-F has grown a larger set of fangs to sink into the neck of the establishment.

Watch the new video for "Press Corpse," and you might ask yourself, "How the hell did RCA allow this video to be made? Let alone, pay for it?" The video in question is loaded with footage of protests, riot cops beating protesters, burning crosses, slogans, tanks, bombs, black flags and more. The imagery is upfront and dares you to turn away. To top it all off, the video ends with a stenciled "What are we gonna do about the USA" filling the screen.

2006 also marks the tenth anniversary of the very first Anti-Flag record. The band has definitely come along way since then, but they've never lost site of the thing they crave most: change.
